The following tools were developed by Dathan Rush and M'Lisa Shelden as well as other staff at the Family, Infant and Preschool Program in Morganton, North Carolina to assist practitioners in their adherence to coaching practices. - A Framework for Reflective Questioning
A Framework for Reflective Questioning provides questions that may be used by the coach to promote reflection on the part of the learner. The framework lists examples of four different types of questions use for four different purposes during the coaching conversation.
- Coaching Log
The Coaching Log is a transcript of the coaching conversation written by the coach after the coaching session. The purpose of the transcript is to examine how the characteristics of coaching were operationalized within the coaching conversation.
- Coaching Log Coding Tool
The Coaching Log Coding Tool is used to assess the extent to which a practitioner's conversation as documented on a coaching log adheres to natural learning environment practices and the characteristics of coaching.
- Coaching Rating Scale
The Coaching Rating Scale is designed to measure the frequency a practitioner uses the coaching characteristics as measured by 14 indicators of coaching practices.
- Coaching Practices Scale
The Coaching Practices Scale is used to determine the extent to which a practitioner operationalizes coaching competence in terms of assessment of the level of a his/her knowledge and skills used to support a learner in refining existing skills and developing new ones and in reflecting on his/her own abilities and learning.
